Biodegradable germanium electronics for integrated biosensing of physiological signals

Abstract Transient electronics that can disappear or degrade via physical disintegration chemical reaction over a pre-defined operational period provide essential for their applications in implantable bioelectronics due to the complete elimination of second surgical extraction. However, dissolution commonly utilized bioresorbable materials often accompanies hydrogen production, which may cause potential irreparable harm human body. This paper introduces germanium nanomembrane-based electronic sensors, where all biofluidic theoretically have no gaseous products. In particular, superior transport enables demonstrated sensors successfully distinguish crosstalk different physiological signals, such as temperature and strain, suggesting significant prospect construction dual multi-parameter biosensors. Systematical studies reveal gauge factor coefficient resistance comparable otherwise similar devices with products during dissolution.
